Well, here I am, at the end of 30 days on The Whole30 plan. One thing I proved: I do actually have the ability to stop myself from eating foods that I love, like breads, grains, sweets, peanut butter, and other “banned” foods.
Another thing I proved to myself: I did not magically stop wanting these foods. Sure, I found substitutes. But honestly? If my reintroduction period goes the way I expect it to go, I will probably go back to eating most of the foods I like that are not allowed on the plan.
At first, I thought that removing some of these foods had a marked improvement on my stomach issues. However, at about the 4-week mark, those issues returned despite being on the plan. So, back on my PPIs for now. I won’t know until tomorrow whether I’ve lost any weight or not, as I’m sticking to the rules of not weighing myself since Day 1.
Also, I still do not care for cooking for myself. Sure, I can do it. But most of my meals came out well enough for one or two meals, but too boring to continue after that.
I’m so excited that I get to start my reintroduction tomorrow! I’m thinking grains will be first on my list. I might save sugar for last, just as a treat. And just in time for Valentine’s Day!
Other than that, I have no change in my sinus or stomach issues, and no apparent change in my complexion. So, perhaps my issues don’t stem from my food choices, but are simply manifestations of aging, or other underlying issues. Whatever. I’m just happy that I’ll be able to eat everything else I want again soon. And yes, I realize that much (most) of it is not conducive to attaining a healthy weight. But what use is a healthy body without a happy mind and spirit?
