Day 34: Kaleidoscope Happy!

A dear friend, Leslie M., told me about this inexpensive little app for Macs that makes kaleidoscope images. I gave it a try, and I’m in serious like with it! While there is definitely room for improvement, I do love the results I’ve gotten so far.

In fact, I was still in my jammies and bathrobe until past 4:00 in the afternoon, and I hadn’t eaten anything until after 4:30 today, because I had been playing with this little app. It’s called ScopeWorks and is available in the Mac Apps store.

I actually ended up making too many to post here for now, but here is a small sampling.

And, as usual, here is the alternate version, which I actually prefer:

The above scopes were made from a photograph of a fallen tree near the shore in Alaska. The tree had “fairy steps” fungus on it, and I got these amazing images.

The app is pretty basic, and has few controls, so anyone can start using it pretty quickly. It’s not very easy to control the results, so some patience is required if you’re a control freak. Basically, you turn on the animation control, and stop it when You get something you like. But I did learn how to move the slice around some, although I couldn’t control the rotation. Still, I think you’ll agree the results can be stunning.

I used ScopeWorks to generate the kaleidoscopes, then used PhotoShop to further refine the images, and to get the final versions.

I made several more images, but maybe I’ll post them later. For now, I need to get some laundry done. Ah, mundane life calls. At least I have something other than that sports event to keep me occupied and amused.
