Yesterday, I managed to write about 5500 words for my new project book. This includes an introduction, and the complete, detailed (written) instructions for one project.
I’m so excited about this project, I’m about to burst wanting to describe it in more detail! But, I will refrain from it for now, as I think it’s a really neat idea, and I’m hoping it will be popular among crafters and sewists.
Today I drafted several sketches and wrote out ideas for making additional designs for the book. Next I will need to write up the instructions and make samples. Then it will be on to more product designs. Wash, rinse, repeat…
I’m not exactly sure how many projects/instructions there will be, but it looks like there will be lots of them; it will likely be at least a dozen interchangeable bits, plus ideas for altering the designs and adapting the pieces. I’m also planning to include step-by-step photos for each project. Which means I’ll have to do a photo shoot at some point. Which also means I need a good manicure, and maybe a new hair style, for the “in progress” photos! Can I take that expense off my taxes, do you think?
Once I get the projects all written up and photographed, I will also need pattern testers, as well as beta readers. Let me know if you might be interested in either activity. Or both. Beta readers and pattern testers will get a free copy of the finished book, and their name in the acknowledgements. Also, pattern testers will get a photo of their finished pieces in the gallery section of the book.
This will be an expensive book to produce, since it will be a fairly large size (8.5″ x 11″, I think) with lots of project instructions (many pieces to make), and full color/full bleed. I’m seriously thinking I need a Kickstarter campaign for this thing. One of these days I’ll take the time to look into it. But not today, since I need to get some sleep. I have work tomorrow, and while I feel great, I’m still getting used to getting out of bed at 6 a.m. On the bright side, I have a job I enjoy that pays well, and also happens to fund most of my creative pursuits. So, yay!
