Day 300: Inspired Art

Well, yes, pretty much all art is inspired in some way. This stuff has stories…

But the stories aren’t very long or involved. Even so, it made me want to make these.

I also decided to try to go “old school” and use paper, pencil and pens. Very different from using the computer and tablet to draw.

First things first. Yesterday, I went on a 5-hour horseback trail ride. It was a beautiful autumn day.  A bit chilly and breezy, but the sun was shining, and the woods still had some colorful leaves here and there. The trail criss-crossed a couple of shallow rivers, and went up and down a few hills. The one thing I kept noticing was how so many trees had been circled by vines, which had grown up around them, and had become as thick as small trees in the process. There were also some young trees or vines which had become entwined with other vines, which spiraled upward together. They made beautiful patterns in the woods, but I didn’t want to try to stop and get photos because I would hold up the other riders in our group. I decided that I would make a drawing of the images instead.

So, here is my “Entwined”:

Also, I recently watched the first and second seasons of Game of Thrones on DVD. What a bunch of characters! The scoundrels turn out to be good guys (mostly), and the honorable ones turn out to be the bad guys (sort of)! I’m intrigued by Daenerys Targaryen and how she grows into her strength as a woman and “Khaleesi” of her husband’s tribe(?), as well as her relationship with Khal Drogo. I love how they come to love each other, and he calls her “My Sun”, and she calls him “My Moon and Stars”. So romantic, for such a “barbarian” warrior culture. They inspired these next two pieces:

Day 300: My Sun
Day 300: My Sun
Day 300: My Moon And Stars
Day 300: My Moon And Stars

Hope you like them! Wonder what the next few days will bring, creativity-wise?
