A Little Steamy…

A dear friend brought to my attention the fact that I neglected to post any decent photos of my Steampunk outfit for the wedding I attended back in July. It’s time to remedy that situation.

I put this outfit together with the help of a friend who is practiced at leatherworking. She helped me customize the belts, which I bought from someone off ebay or etsy, I think. It took us a while to figure out how to make my design work, but it ended up being super-simple in the end. I had bought 5 belt blanks, and was able to use 2 of them to make a longer belt (the one around my hips in the below photos). I attached some Steamy charms using some waxed thread to the sides where the rings were attached. Maybe one of these days I’ll get some better, more detailed shots of this outfit.

The jacket is one that I made for our eldest daughter’s wedding in 2010. It worked out perfectly for this wedding, too! I bought the corset from Damsel In This Dress (damseldress.com), I found the boots at Goodwill, and yes, there is a top hat with a little veil on it. The skirt started out as a brown cotton Goodwill find, but I added some tulle strips to a ribbon band and made it a bit more “fantasy”-ish. This was a really fun outfit to make and wear!

I made the wrist cuffs from part of the cutoff waistband from the skirt. One of the necklaces is my old pocketwatch suspended from some sheer ribbons. The other one I found at a bead show. The mini-tophat I found at a nearby mall. The outfit was a little warm for LA in the summer, but the AC inside helped for quite a while.

Hope you enjoyed these photos!
