Day 16: Vesica Piscis

Today’s project is another doodle using geometric shapes on a layered background.

Day 16: Vesica Piscis

The central shape is called a “vesica piscis” (literal translation: fish bladder), and is considered by many to be a sacred symbol of the feminine (some would say divine feminine). This is the orientation of the symbol used at the Chalice Well in Glastonbury, England, considered to be one of the most sacred of the holy wells in the UK. The symbol is also sometimes seen in the horizontal orientation, but most often you only see the central lozenge shape, without the line through the shape. The lozenge is often used as a “frame” for another image when in the vertical orientation, usually in religious paintings.

I was amazed when the background suddenly looked like water, especially given the fact that I had decided on the design before I made the background. Believe it or not, none of the images used to create the background are of water.

I just added the little flower shapes for fun. Not sure I’ll keep them, but for now I think they work. More or less.

And just for fun, here is the background image without the designs:
