Making the Thing: Part VI

Wow! I would never have thought I could get another little mini dish out of that fused fabric, but here we are.

A small (5 inch diameter) round bowl made from yellow, white, and blue print fabric, with a small blue fabric circle in the center. There are lines of light blue satin stitching around the center circle, and radiating outward toward the edges. The edge is also covered in light blue satin stitching.

Of course I realize this is not perfect. This was trickier than the larger bowls I’ve made, because it’s more difficult to guide the overlapping edges on the tiny bowl. But again, it was a lesson (or rather, several lessons) in how to do this technique, and what to avoid.

All in all, I’m happy with my little samples/experiments. I’ll keep making these using different colors and combinations of fabrics.

The inspirations for these little projects are from Modern Fabric Art Bowls, by Kirsten Fisher, and Fast Fun & Easy Fabric Bowls, by Linda Johansen. Also, a big shout out to my SILs for asking me to make some of these for them. I’m not exactly sure what they will get in the end, but I’ll see if either of them like any of these samples.
