Day 186: Beginning a New Quilt

Yes, I know I’m a day late with this post. But, on the bright side, here it is…

I started WomanChild’s quilt yesterday. First, I went through one of my pattern books, and decided to make one of the patterns I found, instead of trying to figure out how much yardage I was going to need, and exactly how I was going to put the quilt together. This way, all the difficult stuff is already done!

Next, I picked through the fabrics I had selected that would work for the colors I wanted, and weeded out the ones that I didn’t have enough yardage. Seeing that I didn’t have enough large pieces of lime green fabrics, I decided to go ahead and use some lime green fat quarters I had in my stash, just for a little variety.

Since I was going to have to use more lime fabrics than blue ones, I went ahead and cut the lime strips first. I needed a total of 14 strips measuring 1.5″ x 42″, for each of four different fabrics (for each color, lime green and peacock blue). Of course, I was flying by the seat of the pants, as usual, so I ended up cutting way too many lime strips. So, I had to take a step back and decide which fabrics I wanted to include. Of course, I ended up changing my mind several times. Here are the strips I decided to use:

And these are just the green strips. Next, I needed to cut the blue strips. But since it was getting late, I decided to wait for the next day. Which I will show you in my next post.
